Nearly two months after the launch of a hi-tech wireless payment solution for fuel customers, Enoc has started giving Dh100 worth of free fuel as an incentive to attract customers to use ViP tags that promises to make filling petrol easier, faster and smarter.
Many Eppco and Enoc fuel stations have new ViP kiosks announcing the new offer for anyone buying a ViP tag at the cost of Dh250 per packet.
“We have started selling more ViP tags now after the introduction of the Dh100 free fuel offer. In the first few weeks of the official launch of ViP tags, there were not many takers for the high tech payment tag because customers were always asking how much credit balance they would get from a tag with a price tag of Dh250. They used to just inquire and did not purchase,” said a sales assistant promoting ViP tags in a fuel station.
Many customers used to compare buying a ViP tag to buying a salik tag, in which they get a minimum cash balance. The The Vehicle Identification Pass is an automated and paperless payment system without the need for cash, fuel cards or receipts. Vehicle owners who buy the packet, will stick it to their vehicles like a Salik tag, drive into the service station, refuel with the help of an attendant and drive off. A major media campaign was launched to popularize ViP tags.
Many customers who spoke to Emirates 24|7 were initially reluctant to spend Dh250 just for the tag because they wanted some credit with the tag. For some, the price of Dh250 appeared expensive and the amount could be better used to buy petrol directly, instead of buying a tag and then loading the cash. ENOC officials did not respond to Emirates 24|7 queries about the initial response to the innovative product and an official said it was too early to make an assessment of customer feedback. However, some customers are now curious to fix the ViP tags because it is coming with preloaded credit of Dh 100, the minimum balance required in the tag. Nearly 750,000 commercial customers were already using the ViP tags in their fleet of vehicles and the number of individual users is not yet disclosed.
“Many customers came and asked as for free offers. Some customers who found a recent ViP promotion in Dubai Mall came and asked as for the same – buy one get one free offer. It was a promotion only in a specific mall and we could not entertain the customers’ demand,” added another source in Enoc. Though the tag system was successful with companies and individuals with multiple number of vehicles, individual customers owning a single vehicle were reluctant to use the high tech facility, mainly in view of the tag price of Dh250.
