A baggage handler at Dubai International Airport has gone on trial accused of stealing a passenger’s sunglasses and 10,000 Saudi riyals.
Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the 20-year-old Nepali national pocketed the Ray-Ban shades and cash after searching through bags.
Upon scanning and checking the airport employees manually, an Emirati inspector found the stolen items on the worker on August 23 of this year.
A 29-year-old Emirati police officer testified that the defendant initially refused to hand over the sunglasses and the money. He also claimed that he had found the belongings underneath a seat in a plane, which prosecutors said is not the case.
The defendant denied the charges at court. The hearing was adjourned until November 11.
